India Box Office: Salman Khan’s ‘Tiger 3’ Scores $45 Million In A Week


More than a week after breaking records at the ticket windows, Bollywood star Salman Khan’s recent outing has slowed down significantly. The film scored just a little more than $9 million in the second weekend. Tiger 3 earned nearly $45.3 million after a week since the release on November 12. The film made a worldwide gross opening of $11.3 million to emerge as Khan’s highest-ever opener, toppling Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Bharat. It also became the third best-opening Hindi movie of 2023.

, Tiger 3 earned $9.62 million in the second weekend and was ranked at the seventh slot in the list for worldwide top-grossing films over the weekend ending November 19. In the US markets, Tiger 3 earned a little more than $1 million over the second weekend, and was ranked at the eleventh spot for top-grossing films in the US.

Tiger 3 is the third film in Khan’s hit spy-action franchise and fifth one in producers Yash Raj Films’ ‘spy-universe’. With Tiger 3, producers Yash Raj Films established their “spy universe” which includes the three Tiger films (Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai and Tiger 3), Tiger Shroff and Hrithik Roshan’s War, and Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. Khan reprises his role of Indian spy Avinash Singh Rathore aka Tiger, and Katrina Kaif also returns as Pakistani spy Zoya in the new film. Emraan Hashmi made his entry in the franchise with Tiger 3 which features him as the main antagonist. Revathy essays the role of Khan’s boss in the film – it was previously essayed by Girish Karnad who died in 2019.

Sridhar Raghavan has written the film that follows Khan’s character of an Indian spy (Tiger) as he embarks on a new mission outside his home country. The stakes are much higher this time as his mission is not just about saving his own country. His wife and son are also at stake. Additionally, he also took upon himself to offer some help to the neighbouring country of Pakistan.

Directed by Maneesh Sharma, the film had an unusual release – it was released on a Sunday instead of a Friday – November 12 – the day when India celebrated the festival of lights, Diwali. The film released in It released in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil.

Tiger 3 opened to mixed reviews, and most critics highlighted a lack of coherence and rationality in the storyline. Nonetheless, the single-screen theatre-audience lapped up the film with open hands. Special camoes by Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan added to the film’s apppeal.
